ABOUT ARPORA- NORTH GOA

Arpora is a place divided into two parts-a tiny beach spot and a village. This place has its own beauties for tourist as well as local people. The prime achievement is esteemed St. Joseph High School. A Pioneering Educational Institute for many illustrious Goan renowned as Alma Mater. This school in Arpora was built in the year 1886 by Brother William Robert Lyons, who had taken a refuge in Goa because he was suffering from incurable skin malady, which was later cured after having continuous spring waters in Candolim. This school has been outstanding in Educations as well as in Sports.

P.P. Shirodkar writes in his books about Hindus here that “a Disciple of Matsyendranath, Chouranguinath” was placed in a large Shrine at Arpora. The said Idol was taken to Assonora during the time of conversion. Today Sankavaddi is a main place for Hindu workship in Baga – Arpora.

St. Sebestian feast is the biggest feast for the Arpora Villagers every year in the month of January. This chapel is situated on the opposite side of grand Pinto Mansion. A huge hindu population also joints with Christian here to celebrate this feast, the crowded place here in Arpora is called Tintto. Hindus Dhalo celebrations also falls on the same night of Sebestian’s feast.

Arpora is famous for selling fresh fish such as prawns, tiger prawns, crabs, oysters etc. Fishermen takes their boats and go for Fishing on middle of the beach and sell the fishes here in wholesale, thus you can enjoy tasty fish.

Your holiday in Goa is incomplete if you have not seen logo's Saturday Night Market at Arpora. The market has hundreds of stalls, with all kinds of accessories and is abuzz with music and food. If you are a shopaholic, you can shop till you drop. If shopping is not your scene, you can sit on a bench and watch the world go by. You'll see the most outlandish sights and some interesting people walking along with a drink in one hand and a shopping list in the other! The Indian part of the market has Kashmiri items, wooden articles, silks, pashminas, masks, antiques and home accessories. The part of the market run by foreigners has leather masks, clothes popularized by hippies, amazing hand-made shoes by designer Pinto, wacky furniture, paintings, CDs and clothes galore. There Is something for everyone. And as a touch of exotica, there are fortune-tellers and tarot card readers. There are all sorts of cuisine available to choose from. Name the cuisine and it is there.- Greek, English, South Indian, Thai, Italian, Goan, Nepali, Indian, Indian-Chinese and desserts. All these are available in quaint rows to tantalize your taste buds. The environment is clean and the food delicious. The market is the brainchild of a foreigner, Ingo. He has been having problems on issues regarding the placement of the market. On any given day, the market sees at least 20,000 people come in. There is no dearth of entertainment and games throughout the evening.

Places Close to Arpora, Goa:

Baga- Goa:

  Baga Beach in North Goa may be touristy and busy but for those who like action, it's one of the most happening beaches on the coast. You'll find everything from water sports to fine dining restaurants there, along with a pulsating nightlife.
Baga Beach is located in North Goa, 9 kilometers (6 miles) from Mapusa and 16 kilometers (10 miles) from Panaji, the state capital. It's bordered by Calangute Beach to the south, and Anjuna Beach to the north on the other side of the river. Baga Beach starts right where Calangute ends, although it's hard to pinpoint exactly where.

Calangute - Goa:

Calangute Beach Goa India, The Calangute Beach is aptly referred to as the queen of the beaches and happens to be one of the most popular beaches in the Beach Capital of India Goa.Calangute Beach in India - The swaying palm tress and the picturesque saltpans add to the beauty of nature on the shores of the Arabian Sea. Vagator - Goa:

Located 22 km from state capital Panaji, the Vagator beach is a popular beach in Goa. The Vagator beach is part of a 30 km stretch of beach coastline along the west coast of Goa that is home to some of the top-notch Goan beaches such as the Calangute beach and the Anjuna beach. Although Vagator beach cannot match upto the popularity commanded by its illustrious neighbours, the secluded nature of the beach makes it the perfect destination for a tranquil holiday with only sun, sand and sea for company. The confluence of golden sand doted with black lava rocks and swaying coconut and palm trees provides for an idyllic getaway. The red-laterite structure of the 500-year-old Chapora Fort located nearby presents an enchanting backdrop.
Since the Vagator beach is not a prominent stop in most tourist trails, the necessary structure has yet to come up. Accommodation is limited and the beach is mostly thronged by budget travelers.
How to Reach Vagator Beach There are a number of buses that run from Mapusa and Calangute Beach to Vagator. The nearest interstate bus station is at Mapusa, the KTC bus station.

Anjuna - Goa:

Anjuna Beach is popularly known as the freak capital of the world and not without reasons. It claimed popularity for its Trance Parties and the Hippies who tried to synthesize the spiritual traditions of the East and the art, ideas and the music of the West. Sometime in the late 1950s to mid-1960s, the area was "discovered" by a group of travelers, including "Eight Finger Eddie," and a small international psychedelic scene began to meet there to party during the dry season. Anjuna is just the right place for lazing holidaymakers. Besides the calm waters of the Arabian Sea lapping softly on the Indian shore, Anjuna comes live with its ever-famous full-moon parties and the Wednesday flea market to take one on to a trance trip.The main attractions of Anjuna Beach are the magnificent Albuquerque Mansion built in 1920 (flanked by octagonal towers and an attractive Mangalore tile-roof), the Mascarenhas Mansion, and the Chapora Fort
